Westminster

Specials classes at Westminster Christian Academy are designed to widen the student's academic experience.  A well-rounded school program includes opportunities to expand and extend learning in areas such as Fine Arts, diverse cultures, team and individual athletics, and study skills.  WCA's Specials Classes and extracurricular opportunities provide students with experiences that will enrich their academic studies and broaden their cultural horizons.

Music: Students sing songs, learn music theory, and are introduced (in 3rd grade) to musical instruments.  An elementary musical play is planned and performed each semester.

Critical Thinking:
These once weekly classes are designed to teach students deductive and associative reasoning as well as logical thinking skills.

Physical Education:
Students focus on learning team work through team sports.  They also learn the importance of keeping their bodies healthy and fit.

Library:
Classes attend Library once a week.  Our 15,000 volume library provides many opportunities for students to explore their world. Students learn the Dewey decimal system and how to use a library, responsibility for books, and research skills (upper elementary).

Science Lab:
Hands-on experimentation linked to the classroom science curriculum is the focus of the Science Lab classes.  Concepts "come to life" as students are able to explore, experience, record, and duplicate utilizing the scientific process.

Computer
Students learn proper typing technique as well as academically and professionally requisite skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  New to our curriculum is the introduction of Google Apps for Education and collaborative computer projects.

Latin: Will be new to the 2012-13 school year for grades 3-6.
