Middle School and
Junior High
Middle School
Program
The Middle School program,
grades 5-6, follow a "middle school" model rather than an elementary
design. The day is divided into eight 40 - 45 minute periods (plus
homeroom and lunch). Each period is focused on a core subject area
or on an extracurricular class. Middle School teachers teach in
their particular areas of expertise, which allows them to focus on and
prepare for fewer classes. It also assures students of receiving
instruction from teachers who are passionate about the subject areas
they teach. Changing classes throughout the day will help students
learn to manage their time, supplies, and schedules.
Jr. High Program
Our Jr. High program is both innovative and
exciting. Our students will receive the very best academic
preparation through a balance of technology-based and
traditional instruction, a distinctive of the program.
Students will have their own laptops throughout the school
year. They will use technology and many of its
applications to access curricular content, communicate, gather
data and information for research, and produce documents.
They will utilize computer skills to design, produce,
demonstrate, and present - in all areas of the curriculum.
WCA's Jr. High students will not be building-bound, either.
They will find themselves involved (laptop in hand) in field
study opportunities that will extend and enrich their learning
- particularly in the fields of science and social studies.
In the spring they will participate in
4 -day capstone field trips experiences with 7th graders taking a
geographic and historic tour of Texas and 8th graders getting
first-hand international missions experience through a service
project trip to Belize.
To further enrich academic development, Jr. High students
will be able to choose 2 one-semester electives from a list
created to appeal to a wide array of interests. There will
also be after-school electives available to round-out this
forward-thinking program.
Jr. High at Westminster Christian Academy will not only be a
wonderful academic journey, it will be an adventure our students
will never forget!
